Golf: A Brief Overview For Newbies
There are few sports better than Golf. It is a game of skill, and playing it is both an enjoyable physical and mental challenge. Like any other game, golf follows certain rules. The formal rules of golf would take more than just one article to exhaust though. The basic of Golf, again, as with any other sport, is to uphold the spirit of sports and that is fairness. The game is supposed to be played fair and square and sportsmanship has to be upheld.
You have to make sure that you have proper equipment with you. There are rules you have to follow as far as equipments go. You may not keep more than 14 clubs with you. Actually, to be honest, you may bring as many clubs as you want. Just make sure you don’t borrow clubs from other players because it is not allowed in most circumstances, and is scorned upon.
You’ll find several types of clubs among which wood, wedges, putters and iron are common. Each of them has a specific purpose. For the initial shots, when you require a lot of power and a lot of distance, wood clubs are perfect. Irons on the other hand are shorter and have a flat angled face making them useful for shots approaching the green or from more difficult lies. If you’re near the hole, and want to roll the ball along the ground, putters are the best. Wedges have the greatest loft angles among the four, and as such produce the most spin on the ball, making it “bite” the green upon impact.
Prior to 1935, golf clubs with wooden shafts were the norm. They were replaced by steel clubs because apart from being frail, they proved difficult for golfers to master being that you’d have to use a different swing for each club. These were a lot more consistent in their performance, being stronger and easier to grip. Very recently, around the 90s, graphite shafts became commonplace. As is apparent, clubs have evolved over the years. They have become better and lighter. Still, shafts made of steel maintain a strong presence in golf, as they provide more accuracy due to their lower torque and flex. These days, golfers invest on golf club custom fitting to better their game. Through golf club custom fitting, the clubs will be made specifically suited to an individual's height, strength, clubhead speed and swing characteristics. There are several Golf Courses Surrey custom fitting specialists you can go to. In fact, quite a few of them own a custom fit centers.
